Abstract


Harmful habits for children are such as finger sucking, nail bite, lip biting, tongue thrusting and mouth breathing, and, among them finger sucking are known to be the worst in case it last for long time. Finger sucking habit cause a bit of cranio-facial skeletal changes, and a great deal of dental malocclusion.
Proper therapy is necessary in case finger sucking habit lasts until the late of primary dentition because it generates automatically uncurable malocclusion.
This study showed that relatively successful results such as the cease of the habit and solutions of open bites could be generated by using fixed or removable tongue crib.
The author applied tongue crib to the children of finger sucking habit and it turned out to be successful, the results follow as:

1. Proper therapy is necessary in case finger sucking habit lasts until the late of primary dentition because it generates automatically uncurable malocclusion.
2. Tongue crib can be applied only when the children wants to stop the habits, and the appliance which will be used in that case should nor be hurt not disturb occlusion, and play a role as a reminder.
3. Usage of tongue crib resulted in not only the discontinuance of the habit but also improvement in overbite and overjet.
